Petalancaster April 3rd walk - Ullswater & Place Fell 0 Mar 28 2011, 5:31 PM EDT by Petalancaster

Managed to overcome the normally impassable Kirkstone Pass to recce this walk with Louise yesterday. The day stayed fine weatherwise and I caught a bit of sun. The walk, while rated hard, ascends gradually, so not really a trial of exertion. But bring some insect repellant as the midges were out on the top. The views are tremendous and, if the weather is fair next weekend, this could be one of the best walks of the year. Hope to see you next Sunday.

Petalancaster March 6 Walk - Dunnerdale 0 Feb 17 2011, 4:02 PM EST by Petalancaster

Louise and I recce'd this last Sunday to check out the 3 miles hard, 3 miles easy aspect.

The first 3 miles is anything but hard and we both agree it was moderate to easy. There's a lot of rocky footpaths on the first part, but they're well established and not particularly slippy. There's not much in the way of ascents/descents on the first part of the walk. While it was wet underfoot in places, it wasn't muddy anywhere on the walk. Second half of the walk was easy with good tracks, paths and a bit of road. There's a short ascent but nothing difficult.

It took 65 minutes from Carnforth to reach the start - park in the layby next to the church in Seathwaite or a little furher along the road. The walk took 4 hours with 35 minutes of breaks.

And on top of the fine walk, it's worth a trip for a pint of Dickie Doodles at the Newfield Inn. So, hope to see you on the walk.

Dear M&H Fellwalkers,
I just wanted to let you know that in July, me and my husband Dave will be climbing Mont Blanc in memory of my Dad, Dave Palmer. We are trying to raise as much money as possible for Pancreatic Cancer UK. Many of you spent your Sundays with my Dad, usually huddled behind a dry stone wall in the rain, trying to eat your sandwiches in a force 9 gale. Some of you will also have good memories of the Tour de Mont Blanc (and Tyrone Power in his shorts). My dad got tremendous enjoyment from walking in the Lakes, and also from the people he went with. Any support you can give would be greatly appreciated. FInd us at http://www.justgiving.com/Kate-Inman. Kind Regards, Kate Inman (nee Palmer)
